Research on the Effects of nnEMF

The following is a brief anthology of research elucidating the effects of exposure to non-native electromagnetic radiation (nnEMR) or non-native electromagnetic fields/frequencies (nnEMF). I’ve been asked by some of my clients to furnish the research that has lead me to the conclusions I have regarding the effects of nnEMR and why I put electromagnetic hygiene at the forefront of lifestyle counseling.


Wherever relevant, a brief snippet of the abstract of the study in question has been included for you to quickly digest – or, you can read the studies in their entirety. Some of these are experimental studies, some are meta-analyses. There is one news report and one documentary included as well.

 

(2019) 5G Wireless Communication and Health Effects—A Pragmatic Review Based on Available Studies Regarding 6 to 100 GHz

“This review analyzed 94 relevant publications performing in vivo or in vitro investigations. Each study was characterized for: study type (in vivo, in vitro), biological material (species, cell type, etc.), biological endpoint, exposure (frequency, exposure duration, power density), results, and certain quality criteria. Eighty percent of the in vivo studies showed responses to exposure, while 58% of the in vitro studies demonstrated effects. The responses affected all biological endpoints studied.”

 

(2019) Untargeted metabolomics unveil alterations of biomembranes permeability in human HaCaT keratinocytes upon 60 GHz millimeter-wave exposure

“…important dysregulations could be reported in extracellular metabolomic profiles with 111 and 99 frames being altered upon MMW exposure in positive and negative polarities, respectively. This unexpected extent of modifications can hardly stem from the mild changes that could be reported throughout transcriptomics studies, leading us to hypothesize that MMW might alter the permeability of cell membranes, as reported elsewhere.”
“It appeared that all lipidomic sequences and intracellular metabolomic profiles were slightly affected by MMW but drastic changes in extracellular metabolomic sequences could be evidenced.”

(2018) Studies of Cell Phone Radiofrequency Radiation (Summary of NTP 2018 findings)

The Panel recommended increasing the NTP’s level of evidence calls regarding the heart in male and female rats, adrenal gland in male rats (GSM only), and the brain (gliomas) in male rats of both modulations.


(2018) Electromagnetic Radiation Safety: National Toxicology Program Finds Cell Phone Radiation Causes Cancer (Another summary of NTP 2018 Findings)
DNA damage was significantly increased in the frontal cortex of male mice (both modulations), peripheral leukocytes of female mice (CDMA only), and hippocampus of male rats (CDMA only). DNA damage was nominally elevated in several other tissues of RFR-exposed rats, although statistical significance in these tissues were not achieved.


(2018) High exposure to radiofrequency radiation linked to tumor activity in male rats (Yet another summary of NTP 2018)
High exposure to radiofrequency radiation (RFR) in rodents resulted in tumors in tissues surrounding nerves in the hearts of male rats, but not female rats or any mice, according to draft studies from the National Toxicology Program (NTP).

(2016) Partial Findings from the NTP Carcinogenesis Studies of Cell Phone RFR in Hsd Rats
The occurrences of two tumor types in male Harlan Sprague Dawley rats exposed to RFR, malignant gliomas in the brain and schwannomas of the heart, were considered of particular interest, and are the subject of this report.


(2015) Low frequency electromagnetic fields long-term exposure effects on testicular histology, sperm quality and testosterone levels of male rats
Long-term exposure to low frequency EMF significantly decreased the diameter of the seminiferous tubules and increased number of seminiferous tubules per unit area of testes. In addition, low frequency EMF significantly reduced sperm motility and testosterone levels. However, it had no effect on the weight and size of testes, sperm concentration, and viability.


(2014) Why children absorb more microwave radiation than adults: The consequences
• Children absorb more microwave radiation (MWR) than adults.
• MWR is a Class 2B (possible) carcinogen.
• The fetus is in greater danger than children from exposure to MWR.
• The legal exposure limits have remained unchanged for decades.
• Cellphone manuals warnings and the 20 cm rule for tablets/laptops violate the “normal operating position” regulation.


(2013) Swedish review strengthens grounds for concluding that radiation from cellular and cordless phones is a probable human carcinogen
High resolution computerized models based on human imaging data suggest that children are indeed more susceptible to the effects of EMF exposure at microwave frequencies. If the increased brain cancer risk found in young users in these recent studies does apply at the global level, the gap between supply and demand for oncology services will continue to widen.

The BioInitiative Report is one of the most important and comprehensive analyses of this subject to date. It was recently updated to include studies from 2014-2020.

 

(2010) ICEMS Monograph on the Non-Thermal Effects and Mechanisms of Interaction Between Electromagnetic Fields and Living Matter


(2009) Cell phones and brain tumors: a review including the long-term epidemiologic data
The results indicate that using a cell phone for ≥10 years approximately doubles the riskof being diagnosed with a brain tumor on the same (“ipsilateral”) side of the head as that preferredfor cell phone use. The data achieve statistical significance for glioma and acoustic neuroma but notfor meningioma. Conclusion: The authors conclude that there is adequate epidemiologic evidence to suggest a linkbetween prolonged cell phone usage and the development of an ipsilateral brain tumor.


(2006) The Effects of Static Magnetic Fields, Low Frequency Electromagnetic Fields and Mechanical Vibration on some Physicochemical Properties of Water
As water is the main medium where the major part of biochemical reactions are taking place, it is predicted that a slight changes of physico-chemical properties of both intracellular and extracellular water could dramatically change the metabolic activity of cells and organisms. Therefore, extension of the knowledge on the mechanisms of SMF and EMF effects on physicochemical properties of water seems extremely important for understanding the biological effect of these factors, which are realized through water structural changes.


(2005) Effects of 1800 MHz GSM-like exposure on the gonadal function and hematological parameters of male mice.
The average power density was 100 microW/cm2, the estimated SAR was 0.018-0.023 W/kg… Our results indicate that the applied GSM-like microwave exposure may induce slight, but statistically significant alterations in some hematological and endocrine parameters of male mice within the physiological range. (NOTE: This is a very low SAR. See the 2019 Chicago Tribune study above.)

 

(1975) EFFECT OF MICROWAVES ON CELL FUNCTION AND VIRUS REPLICATION IN CELL CULTURES IRRADIATED IN VITRO
“Irradiation of cell suspensions in vitro with microwave energy results in functional disturbances at the cellular and sub-cellular level, which include inhibition of cell growth,6 chromosomal increased cell membrane permeability,’ depression of phagocytosis, and formation of atypical cells. In certain instances, small non-thermal doses of microwave radiation in vitro may stimulate human lymphocytes to divide and transform.”

 

This page is a work in progress. In the meantime, I hope the research presented on this page raises enough suspicion surrounding constant nnEMF to begin making changes in ones lifestyle.
